Health data startup Clinetic adds to growing list of clinical trial partners

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Durham-based Clinetic says it has hit a milestone by signing its 10th academic health system agreement, adding to its growing lineup of collaborations with hospitals and life sciences companies.

The health technology company, spun out of Duke University in 2017, links hospital data with clinical studies. Its platform makes it possible for researchers to use data from hospital electronic health records (EHRs) to improve patient recruitment for clinical trials as well as gain more insights into the data.

“By streamlining some of the most labor-intensive clinical research workflows for health systems, the Clinetic platform helps these sites and life science companies complete studies faster with increased transparency,” said Tom Kaminski, Clinetic’s co-founder and CEO. “We are receiving very positive feedback from both stakeholders on our software and expect to double our number of paying life science customers this year.”

With its latest agreements, Clinetic now works with more than 65 hospitals and 2,300 care locations across 12 states. One such location is its hometown health system at Duke. Clinetic is helping Duke identify candidates for clinical trials and gain visibility into the diversity of study populations.

“I’ve enjoyed having Clinetic as a research collaborator,” said Allan Kirk, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Duke University Department of Surgery and chair of Clinetic’s board. “Their software broadens the reach for research coordinators, reducing the burden of trial enrollment,” he said in a statement announcing Clinetic’s latest agreement.

Clinetic’s technology ties together two healthcare functions that don’t typically overlap: Data from patient encounters that sits inside hospital and clinic EHRs, and clinical studies that are an essential step in bringing new therapies to market. EHR data is often difficult for researchers to access or work with.

Clinetic says its platform gives researchers the ability to gain insights into patient populations, helping it recruit patients and manage trials more effectively through real-world data.

Clinetic raised a $6.4 million seed round of financing in 2021. The company has 17 employees.
