– The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has selected General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) to build and maintain a new electronic health record (EHR) system utilizing Oracle Cerner technology. for the Indian Health Service (IHS). The new EHR system will replace the current Resource and Patient Management System, which is over 40 years old.
– The new EHR system will modernize IHS healthcare delivery and operations, making it easier for patients and providers to access updated and accurate information. It will also support the Biden-Harris Administration’s Executive Order on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in the Government as well as the Administration’s ongoing efforts to advance health equity and support tribal communities.
10-Year $2.5B Contract, Replaces 40-Yr Old RPMS
GDIT was selected after a detailed and rigorous federal acquisition process that was open to all vendors. The IHS also coordinated with tribal and urban Indian organization partners throughout the process. The new EHR system is expected to improve patient safety and outcomes, clinical quality measures, agency performance reporting, disease management, and insurance reimbursement. The 10-year IHS Health Information Technology Modernization Program valued at $2.5B will help improve patient safety and outcomes, clinical quality measures, agency performance reporting, and disease management, as well as generate more accurate and complete insurance reimbursement.
