RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – WRAL TechWire keeps tabs on the latest and greatest meetups, panels, workshops, conferences, application deadlines and all things happening in the entrepreneurial, technology and business communities in the Triangle and across North Carolina.
Following is a list of events across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and the greater Triangle area through the end of January—including several economic forecasts and New Years-themed events.
Many events will be held in person, as some organizers are returning to a live format.

Code for Durham: Civic Hacking Session
Jan. 3, 7 p.m. (online)
Code for Durham brings together technologists, designers, developers, data scientists, map makers and activists to collaborate on civic technology projects. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.
1 Million Cups RTP
Jan. 4, 9-10 a.m. (online)
1 Million Cups, presented by Kauffman, is a weekly informal pitch event for the startup community. Join for free coffee and entrepreneurial support as local startups deliver their presentations.
Cary Chamber Economic Forecast Breakfast
Jan. 4, 7:30-9 a.m. @Prestonwood Country Club
Cary Chamber will host local economist Dr. Michael Walden for a discussion on the upcoming year’s challenges and opportunities in Cary and throughout the Triangle region.
Launch 2023
Jan. 4, 2-6 p.m. @Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts
This forward-looking event will feature trends and forecasts from experts on economic development, commercial real estate, talent and demographics. Speakers hail from a range of prominent companies and organizations, including WakeMed, Wells Fargo, Highwoods Properties, Spiffy and more.
Application Deadline: Launch Chapel Hill (Spring 2023)
Jan. 5, 5 p.m.
Applications are open for Launch Chapel Hill’s next accelerator cohort, beginning in early-February. The program isn’t exclusive to UNC students; applicants don’t need to have connections to the campus, Chapel Hill or Orange County to apply. Startups in any industry are welcome. Application Deadline: The Camel Accelerator at Campbell University
Jan. 5
This 10-week accelerator, running from February to April, will select 10 to 20 North Carolina-based entrepreneurs who are female, minority or reside in a rural area. Participants will learn sales and marketing tips, connect with mentors, grow their networks and get connected to educational resources. The cohort will be in a hybrid format, with meetings held via Zoom and at Campbell’s Buies Creek campus.
NC Chamber Economic Forecast Forum
Jan. 6, 10:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. @Sheraton Imperial Hotel
The NC Chamber and North Carolina Bankers Association will host the 21st annual Economic Forecast Forum, bringing together the state’s top leaders to discuss the economic forecast for 2023.
NC IDEA Spring 2023 MICRO & SEED Grants Webinar

NC IDEA will open the application window for its two flagship grant programs, serving North Carolina tech startups: NC IDEA MICRO (small, project-based grants of $10,000) and NC IDEA SEED ($50,000 for startups with a proven concept). Applications close on Feb. 27.
FSPV: Fundamentals of Solar PV Design & Installation

This 40-hour course will cover the basics of designing and installing photovoltaic systems, with an optional hands-on installation day taking place after the online program.

This award program offers $5,000 to $50,000 to help early-stage companies meet commercial milestones. In addition to funding, the program also provides access to business experts. Requests for proposals are solicited quarterly from faculty founders.
