Music Health is the company behind Vera, a wellness app that delivers personalized music for patients with various forms of dementia. The company recently announced a partnership with Walgreens Find Care to provide convenient and affordable access to the service.
Caregivers can enter information about the patient’s life, such as their age and where they grew up, and the service will build a customized playlist for each individual. It can take into account their musical tastes, favorite artists, and other details. Thanks to an industry-first agreement, the service has access to the entire catalog of the Universal Music Group.
According to a recent study, music therapy not only can improve the nonverbal interactions of patients with dementia, but can also lower stress levels for their caregivers.
The beauty of the system is that it “re-discovers songs they used to love a long time ago but may have forgotten about, which their caregivers may have never heard of, and their families may not even know of,” said Music Health Co-founder, Stephen Hunt. The music can help trigger positive memories and temporarily improve motor and cognitive function.
Vera is a logical addition to Walgreen’s Find Care. That program helps customers find healthcare expertise for both in-person and virtual support. It connects users to more than 75 local and national providers, and can help caregivers book appointments.
This partnership is another creative example of how digital health services can be combined to help both the elderly and their caregivers.
