Mobility is a major challenge for people with walking impairments. Biomotum, a company dedicated to improving walking function, is transforming mobility rehabilitation through SPARK, a wearable robotic assistance device.
SPARK is a robotic exoskeleton designed to be used for clinical research, robotic rehabilitation, and personal mobility. For researchers, the system provides a lightweight, go-anywhere solution that delivers precise, quantifiable assistance and resistance for use in clinical trials and investigational research. The system can also provide precise and effective rehabilitation for individuals with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions, increasing gait quality and therapeutic impact through robotic gait training. The robotic device is untethered, providing on-demand assistance on any terrain, including stairs, hills, gravel, and uneven surfaces. It is designed for rapid setup, with typical donning time being less than three minutes. In fact, it is more than just an assistive device; the system will also be available for at-home rehab and on-demand training.
SPARK has a clinically validated effectiveness. The studies demonstrate a 32% increase in walking speed, 21% increase in step length, and 29% improved efficiency in individuals with cerebral palsy. SPARK is in clinical trials for pediatric cerebral palsy. Although the device is not yet FDA cleared, it offers hope for a better quality of life for individuals who struggle with daily mobility tasks.
