Emergent BioSolutions has landed a $704 million contract from BARDA.

The manufacturer announced the BARDA award on Tuesday for a 10-year contract to develop and scale up the production of the Ebola treatment Ebanga. Emergent will scale up the manufacturing of Ebanga which includes tech transfers, submission of a supplemental BLA to the FDA and stability studies. Ebanga was approved by the FDA to treat Ebola in 2020.

The contract announcement boosted the manufacturer’s stock price $EBS, rising more than 17% on Tuesday.

“Ebola virus has the ability to emerge unexpectedly posing a risk to global health. Its elusive nature makes it difficult to predict when and where an outbreak may occur, which underscores the importance of preparedness efforts against this public health threat,” Kelly Warfield, Emergent’s SVP of science and development said, in a press release.

Emergent has been securing other contracts so far this year, netting a $120 million contract to manufacture the smallpox vaccine ACAM200 for the Strategic National Stockpile in May. At the beginning of the year, Emergent received a contract to supply reactive skin decontamination lotion to the DOD worth $379.6 million.
