Lucy Scientific Discovery Inc. (NASDAQ: LSDI) has launched a unique blend of Amanita muscaria and Reishi mushrooms combined with other nootropics to improve sleep quality.

The company announced the Twilight product on Tuesday which is designed to boost cognitive function and improve sleep quality is the latest offering from the company following the recent launch of Mindful. Both products are now available for purchase on the company’s official online store and other select channels.

“We are incredibly excited to present Twilight to our customers and offer them a nightly solution for improved sleep,” director of marketing of Lucy Scientific Chanel Perez said.

“Sleep disorders, a pervasive issue faced by a significant proportion of the population, can significantly affect one’s overall well-being. After the encouraging reception of Mindful by Lucy, we are confident that Twilight will follow its success and enhance the lives of our customers.”

Currently, Twilight and Mindful are available in capsule form. However, the company plans to expand its product range to include other formats in the near future.

Twilight also includes chamomile, zinc, passionflower, L-Tryptophan, L-Theanine, Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid, valerian root and magnesium.

Sleep disorders are a widespread issue, with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute estimating that between 50 to 70 million adults in the United States alone suffer from sleep disorders.

This represents approximately 15-20 per cent of the adult population in the country. The global sleep aids market is also projected to grow to a staggering $125.3 billion by 2027 according to market research firms.

Amanita muscaria is known for its psychoactive properties, with the main active compounds being the chemicals ibotenic acid and muscimol. It has a long history of use in religious and shamanic rituals in various cultures, and its psychoactive properties have led to its use as a recreational drug. However, it can also be toxic and potentially lethal if consumed in large quantities.

Some companies such as Psyched Wellness Ltd. (CSE:PSYC) (OTCQB:PSYCF) (FRA:5U9) have also launched products with Amanita claiming positive health effects. It says its product helps with sleep and improves levels of serotonin in the brain while relaxing muscles and relieving stress.

Reishi mushroom, also known as Ganoderma lucidum or Lingzhi, is a type of fungus that grows in various hot and humid locations in Asia. For many years, this fungus has been a staple in Eastern medicine. Some research suggests that they may boost the immune system, have anti-cancer properties, help fight fatigue and depression and improve heart health.
