StartUp Health Insights: Cyclica Receives C$2.4M Grant from Gates Foundation | Two Weeks Ending Nov 22, 2022

In addition to a grant for StartUp Health portfolio company Cyclica to advance non-hormonal contraceptive medicines, we saw quite a bit of digital health funding activity in the last two weeks. The largest round reported was a $330M raise for in-home medical company DispatchHealth.

In the last two weeks, we saw more than 24 health innovation funding rounds announced, including a C$2.4M ($1.8M) grant for StartUp Health portfolio company Cyclica. The Toronto, ON-based company received the grant from from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to apply its AI-enabled drug discovery platform to find new therapeutic options to expand the range of accessible non-hormonal contraceptive choices for women in developing countries. <source>

DispatchHealth, a Denver, CO-based in-home medical company, raised $330M led by Optum Ventures, with support from Humana, Oak HC/FT, Echo Health Ventures, Questa Capital, Adams Street Partners, the Olayan Group, Silicon Valley Bank, Pegasus Tech Ventures, and Blue Shield of California. <source>

Maven, a New York, NY-based women and family health startup, raised $90M led by General Catalyst, with participation from CVS Health Ventures, Intermountain Healthcare’s VC arm, and La Famiglia. <source>

Rezo Therapeutics, a San Francisco, CA-based drug discovery company, raised $78M led by SR One, a16z Bio + Health, and Norwest Venture Partners. <source>

Fathom, a San Francisco, CA-based medical coding automation company, raised $46M led by Alkeon Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Cedars-Sinai, Vituity Inflect Health, ApolloMD, Founders Fund, and Tarsadia. <source>

Elemental Machines, a Cambridge, MA-based developer of an AI-powered, connected lab platform, raised $41M led by Sageview Capital, co-led by Omega Venture Partners, with participation from Gutbrain Ventures and Digitalis Ventures. <source>

care.ai, an Orlando, FL-based provider of an AI-powered ambient monitoring platform in healthcare, raised $27M led by Crescent Cove Advisors. <source>

Turbine, a Budapest, Hungary-based cell stimulation platform for predicting cancer treatment effectiveness, raised €20M ($20.5M) co-led by Mercia and MSD Global Health Innovation Fund, with participation from Day One Capital, Accel, Delin Ventures, and XTX Ventures. <source>

PayZen, a San Francisco, CA-based healthcare payments affordability platform, raised $20M led by 7wireVentures. <source>

Resilience Lab, a New York, NY-based mental health-tech company enabling communities of clinicians to collaborate to improve patient access and outcomes, raised $15M co-led by Viewside Capital Partners and Morningside, with the support of individual investors. <source>

Nymbl Science, a Denver, CO-based company providing digital balance training for older adults, raised $12M led by Cobalt Ventures and Outcomes Collective Growth Capital, with participation from 450 Ventures. <source>

Validic, a Durham, NC-based digital health and remote care company making personal data actionable, raised $12M led by Kaiser Permanente Ventures, with participation from Arkin Digital Health, Green Park & Golf Ventures, Ziegler, Gore Range Capital, Greycroft Partners, and SJF Ventures. <source>

Capitol, a New York, NY-based healthcare data AI startup, raised $10M led by 468 Capital, with participation from Designer Fund, Fuel Capital, Nomad Capital, AirAngels, Sanno Capital, and individual investors. <source>

Ibex Medical Analytics, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based AI-powered cancer diagnostics company, raised $10M from Kreos Capital. <source>

Wesper, a New York, NY-based clinical-grade FDA-cleared wireless home sleep lab, raised $9.6M from Valor Equity Partners, Breyer Capital, Spark Capital, and angel investors. <source>

SocialClimb, a Lehi, UT-based software-as-a-service healthcare marketing company, raised $8.5M led by Spring Capital Partners and Resolve Growth. <source>

WellTheory, a San Francisco, CA-based company on a mission to support those living with autoimmunity, raised $7.2M led by Accel, with participation from Box Group, Lux Capital, Scribble Ventures, Rock Health, and the CEOs of Maven, Everlane, Pillpack, and more. <source>

YonaLink, a Boston, MA-based clinical trial software provider, raised $6M led by Debiopharm Innovation Fund, with participation from eHealth Ventures. <source>

Luminopia, a Cambridge, MA-based prescription digital therapeutics company, raised $5.7M led by ShangBay Capital, with participation from Sony Innovation Fund, The Vertical Group, and SSI Strateg. <source>

Segmed, a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of a cloud-based real-world imaging platform, raised $5.2M led by Nina Capital, with participation from iGan Partners, M3 Inc, Mighty Capital, Expeditions Fund, and Alchemist Accelerator. <source>
