LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, has partnered with CLEAR (NYSE: YOU), a digital identification company, to enhance digital safety and trust by offering LinkedIn users free identity verification.

By using the Powered by CLEAR platform, members can create a visible indicator that their identity has been verified by CLEAR. This will help consumers and businesses know that the people they encounter on LinkedIn are real and authentic.

“Identity is foundational to building trust online. CLEAR and LinkedIn are partnering to enhance trust on LinkedIn’s platform by offering users a free, simple way to protect themselves and others,” said Caryn Seidman-Becker, CEO of CLEAR.  “Ensuring authentic digital interactions helps protect real people.”

CLEAR’s technology uses biometric data like facial recognition to verify identities quickly and easily.

The company’s platform is used in various industries, including travel, healthcare, and sports, to enhance safety and security. Users can verify their identity with a government-issued ID and a selfie, and then use that verified identity across the Clear network.

United States Clear customers verify identity using a government-issued ID

Powered by CLEAR platform provides a simple and seamless way for individuals to confirm their identity and credentials, making daily experiences more secure and convenient. This technology has a user base of 15 million. CLEAR members can confirm their identity with ease whether they are networking online, visiting a doctor, checking into a hotel, renting a car, or attending a sports event.

Starting this month, LinkedIn’s nearly 200 million U.S.-based members can use their government-issued ID and a selfie to verify their identity with CLEAR. Existing users can snap a selfie to verify their LinkedIn account.

LinkedIn Head of Trust and Privacy, Oscar Rodriguez, said that the company is investing in verification and making it free for all members because LinkedIn believe authenticity matters.

As part of LinkedIn’s commitment to fostering a trusted professional community, the company also announced several ways for people to verify specifics about their identities, workplaces, and jobs for free on LinkedIn.

Company shares declined by 0.4 per cent on Friday to $26.37 on the New York Stock Exchange.
