On 18-01-2k23 (Wednesday) Shareholders tracking shares of Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) belongs to Technology sector and Software – Infrastructure industry. “Microsoft has decided to reorganize and restructure operations,” DeLee Shoemaker, the company’s general manager for U.S. state and local government affairs, said in a letter to the state’s Employment Development Department. “Microsoft’s decision to eliminate the 46 positions … is final,” she continued, “and is expected to be permanent.”

Earlier Wednesday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the company (Nasdaq: MSFT) planned to lay off 10,000 employees, blaming the cuts on a slowing economy and changes in the market.

A company representative declined to comment beyond Nadella’s blog post announcing the layoffs.

Among those the tech titan is cutting in Silicon Valley are 12 software engineers, seven applied science workers and five hardware engineers. The affected employees work at the following locations:

Microsoft notified affected workers Wednesday. Their last day with the company will be March 20.

The software maker plans to give laid-off employees “above-average” severance, continue to provide them with health care coverage for six months and allow their stock awards to continue to vest for six months, Nadella said in his post.

Microsoft is only the latest Silicon Valley employer to cut jobs. Earlier this month, Santa Clara-based SoundHound AI Inc. reportedly laid off nearly half its staff.

The cuts represent about 1% of Microsoft’s Silicon Valley workforce. The company has some 3,693 workers here, according to Business Journal research from last year.
