Glenview, Illinois – Published monthly, the journal CHEST® features peer-reviewed, cutting-edge original research in chest medicine: Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and related disciplines. Journal topics include asthma, chest infections, COPD, critical care, diffuse lung disease, education and clinical practice, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep, thoracic oncology and the humanities.

The December issue of the CHEST journal contains 38 articles, including clinically relevant research, reviews, case series, commentary and more. Highlights from the latest issue of the journal CHEST include:

  • Critical Care
Evaluating pediatric intensive care admissions in the Baltimore area between 2016 and 2019, Indicators of Neighborhood-Level Socioeconomic Position and Pediatric Critical Illness finds admission rates dropped by 9% for every $10,000 increase in median household income. View the visual abstract for this research.
  • Education and Clinical Practice
A cross-sectional analysis, Race-Specific Spirometry Equations Do Not Improve Models of Dyspnea and Quantitative Chest CT Phenotypes, finds race-neutral/race-free reference equations may improve pulmonary disease diagnoses and treatment in populations highly vulnerable to lung disease. View the visual abstract for this research.
  • Pulmonary Vascular
Antithrombotic Therapy in Arterial Thrombosis and Thromboembolism in COVID-19 is the latest guideline from the American College of Chest Physicians and includes 11 recommendations for clinical practice. Read the key recommendations here.
  • Thoracic Oncology
Using a survey of 2,049 respondents, original research, Emotional Distress, Anxiety, and General Health Status in Patients With Newly Identified Small Pulmonary Nodules, showed that greater distress was associated with a variety of factors, including larger nodule size, Black race, Hispanic ethnicity and more. View the visual abstract for this research.
