Glenview, Illinois – Published monthly, the journal CHEST ® features peer-reviewed, cutting-edge original research in chest medicine: Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and related disciplines. Journal topics include asthma, chest infections, COPD, critical care, diffuse lung disease, education and clinical practice, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep, thoracic oncology and the humanities.

The June issue of the CHEST journal contains 49 articles, including clinically relevant research, reviews, case series, commentary and more. Each month, the journal also offers complementary web and multimedia resources, including visual abstracts, to expand the reach of its most interesting, timely and relevant research.

“When reading through the June issue of the flagship journal, I recommend also looking at the articles in press in the new open access publications, CHEST® Pulmonary and CHEST® Critical Care,” says Editor in Chief of the journal CHEST, Peter Mazzone, MD, MPH, FCCP. “With full issues publishing in the coming months, they currently feature original research including, ‘Community-AcquiredPneumonia Incidence in Adults 18 Years of Age and Older in Goto City, Japan,’ and ‘ICUMortality Across Prepandemic and Pandemic Cohorts in a Resource-LimitedSetting.’”

Also included in the current issue of the journal CHEST:

  • Asthma
Original research, “Sputum Type 2 Markers Could Predict Remission in Severe Asthma Treated With Anti-IL-5,” suggests that sputum markers can be used as surrogate markers of remission 1 year after therapy. View the visual abstract for this research.
  • Chest Infections
Looking at 1,909 individuals over age 65 who survived hospitalization for community-acquired pneumonia, “Guideline-ConcordantAntibiotic Therapy for the Hospital Treatment of Community-AcquiredPneumonia and 1-Year All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality in Older AdultPatients Surviving to Discharge” suggests that compliance with clinical practice guidelines reduces risk of cardiovascular death at 1 year post-community-acquired pneumonia. View the visual abstract for this research.
  • Critical Care
A population-based cohort study, “New and Persistent Sedative Prescriptions Among Older Adults Following aCritical Illness,” demonstrates that one in 15 sedation-naive older adult ICU survivors filled new sedative prescriptions within a week of discharge, and more than half had refills. View the visual abstract for this research.
  • Thoracic Oncology
A longitudinal study of 4,432 individuals, “ChangingSmoking Behavior and Epigenetics,” finds that methylation in the aryl hydrocarbon receptor repressor gene recovered to a higher degree in individuals who quit smoking compared with individuals who continued smoking or who never smoked.
