Woods further spoke of screening for stocks that have outpaced their peers for the past several quarters and years for earnings per share (EPS) growth. He talked about wanting consistent, proven winners outperforming at least 80% of all stocks in the market.

“Forget about value, the real value is earnings growth,” Woods said.

After screening for the “best-of-breed” stocks in terms of relative strength and earnings power, check for a technical pattern to determine if now is the time to buy, Woods continued. Look for a chart that reflects a “bullish” pattern such as a cup with handle, a flat base, or a double bottom.

“We use the chart to determine if now is the right entry point,” Woods advised.
